JLT President

JLT President Rebecca RichardsonThe Junior League of Topeka is an organization of more than 400 women who care deeply about our community. Our mission is to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our projects are currently focused around improving the quality of all children’s self-esteem in our community. We know that many problems children face stem from a lack of self-esteem, including academic failure, children having children, substance abuse, obesity and violence. If, through our projects, we can help the self-esteem of children, they will have a greater chance to grow up successful and happy – and we all benefit.

Community Programming

The Junior League of Topeka has been instrumental in the creation of many community programs including ERC Resource & Referral, Meals on Wheels, the Ronald McDonald House, the Race Against Breast Cancer, CASA , and Everybody Wins! When Adults Read With Children. Our new initiative is Happy, Healthy Me!, addressing the issue of childhood obesity. We will be collaborating with several local agencies to offer hands-on service to our members in this area. We continually explore and research promising new projects that will benefit the Topeka community. And we are always assessing the needs in our community as well as the needs of our members in order to implement new projects with strong community impact.

Training

The training our members receive from JLT enables them to become catalysts, communicators and coalition builders. Our volunteers use this training in their place of business and other non-profit work making lasting impressions that continue to ripple throughout the community and beyond.

Please join us…

The Junior League of Topeka is actively seeking women who possess an interest in voluntarism and commitment to the community. Our membership is open to all women over 21 years of age living in Topeka and surrounding communities. If you are interested in receiving training, contributing your skills, developing new friendships and making a difference in your community, please join us.
