The Junior League of Topeka's recognizes community members for their dedication and support to Topeka and Shawnee County annually at the Merry Market luncheon.

The following women are the 2010 Community Volunteer Nominees:

2009 Community Volunteer Award

Congratulations to Mr. Bill Moore and Dr. Jerry Farley. 

Bill MooreMr. Bill Moore is President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Westar Energy. He has worked for Westar Energy a total of 29 years. Bill first joined Kansas Gas and Electric Company in Wichita in 1978 and held various positions within the Finance Department, eventually becoming Chairman of the Board and President of KG & E. He left the company in 2000 and served as a managing director for Saber Partners, LLC, New York. Bill returned to Westar Energy in December 2002 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In 2006 he became President and COO. Bill graduated cum laude from Wichita State University, where he also played football. Bill is a member of the board and has served in leadership positions of several civic and charitable organizations. 

 

Dr. Jerry FarleyDr. Jerry Farley became the 14th President of Washburn University in 1997 following an extensive career in finance and business affairs at several other higher education institutions. Previously Dr. Farley held positions as the VP of Community Relations and Economic Development and VP for Administration at the University of Oklahoma. He was also the CFO at the University of Oklahoma’s Health Sciences Center at Oklahoma State University at Stillwater. Dr. Farley holds a degree in finance and accounting, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in Higher Administration- all from the University of Oklahoma. He is a C.P.A. and has been president and chair of several state and national professional organizations. He has authored or coauthored numerous articles and books on finance and accounting. Serving on local and state boards has always been a priority for Dr. Farley. He currently or previously has served on Red Cross, American Cancer Society, United Way, local and state Chambers as well as other local organizations.
